Overview

I was trained through Proofread Anywhere, an intensive program designed to teach students the specific skills that proofreading transcripts requires. As a result, I have experience in hearings, trials, depositions, interpreted proceedings, examinations under oath, expert testimony, and sworn/unsworn statements. Along with reading for grammar and punctuation, I take special care to find issues with homonyms, transposed or missing words, and improper formatting. I double check dates, times, names, addresses, titles, colloquy, bylines, and parentheticals. I make sure the swearing in is in proper order, the certificate pages are filled out correctly, and the index has the right page numbers.

How I Work

Using iAnnotate, I edit transcripts in .pdf format. I will only send you the annotated pages back, and the edits are easy to read in red and yellow. When you receive the file, you simply compare it page by page with your original file and make the necessary changes. I provide instructions for how to change your files into .pdf format using free software.

I use the following resources when proofreading: Morson's English Guide for Court Reporters, The Gregg Reference Manual, Bad Grammar/Good Punctuation and Word Pears Pares Pairs. I also use a preference sheet and a short final transcript as client-specific references. That being said, I do my best not to be nit-picky and focus on the readability of the transcript.

Rates

Standard (24-48 hours)...............................$0.40/page

Rush (12-24 hours).......................................$0.60/page

Expedite (less than 12 hours)......................$0.75/page

More than 30 lines/page..........................+$0.05/page

My  rates apply to fairly clean documents. The less errors there are per page, the more I can pick them out and polish your transcript to perfection. If I start a job and realize that it's not within the scope of a proofreader, I will contact you to discuss the options. I won't blindside you by charging extra without consulting you; however, I do want to make sure I'm paid according to the work I do.

New Clients

To determine whether or not working together will be a good fit, you can send me up to 25 pages to proof at no charge. I think of it as part of the "interview" process. At the end of it, you'll either feel confident to continue the relationship, or decide to go another way without guilt. It can be hard to trust someone you've never met or worked with before, and I want to prove to you that I follow through on my promises. My goal is to do great work that you can trust stamping your name on.
